Fresh off of his triumphant return at the 2015 Merrie Monarch Festival, Robert Cazimero is now set to take the stage at Kahilu Theatre for one show on May 9.
Fulfilling an unbroken 30-year tradition, Cazimero will celebrate May Day in Waimea. His elegant voice is so distinctive that whether he performs on piano or with his brother, Roland, as the Brothers Cazimero, he is instantly recognized and people are compelled to listen.
The show, part of Kahilu Theatre’s 20154/2015 Hawaiian Music Series, gets underway at 7 p.m. The Kahilu Theatre performance is made possible by sponsorship from Randall and Sharon Cislo, Lorraine Maynard and Marriane Maynard.
Robert Cazimero has taken part in up to 40 full album projects, many of which are considered classics in the history of Hawaiian music. He has studied the art of hula for decades and has been an essential player in the evolution of modern Hawaiian music. His passion and talent have played a huge role in taking Hawaiian music and dance to diverse stages all over the globe.
The popular success of his music is recognized by dozens of awards, performances on the world’s most prestigious stages and millions of albums sold worldwide.
“Whether you’re going to play at the Carnegie Hall or in Sam Kapu’s garage at Kapahulu, it’s the product and talent and the love that you bring that makes that place a Mercedes or Carnegie Hall. It really doesn’t matter about all the damn accouterments. It’s what you feel and what you bring to that moment,” Cazimero said.
